Libraries around the county have a full programme of events line-up to mark this year’s Seachtain na Gaeilge (Irish week) in the first two weeks of March.

Gaillimh le Gaeilge will host an information evening on Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, Tuesday January 24, in the Menlo Park Hotel, Terryland. This prestigious award recognises, honours and celebrates all the great bilingual work done in Galway City and is named in honour of Seosamh Ó hÓgartaigh, founding member and company secretary of Gaillimh le Gaeilge.

GROWING UP in a house where the old vinyl collection featured Bob Dylan, Sweeney’s Men, and Pentangle alongside the Rolling Stones and Slade meant there was a good chance I would end up liking folk music as much as rock.

It may be called Seachtain na Gaeilge, but it’s actually a 12 day celebration of the Irish language, trad music, theatre, dance, literature, sport, and food and has something for everyone, from the fluent speaker to those with no Gaeilge at all.
