Westport man grateful for successful Reek fundraiser

A Westport man, whose heartbreaking loss of both of his parents to brain tumours prompted him to organise a fundraiser on Croagh Patrick in their honour, says he is extremely grateful for the support he has received for his efforts to raise awareness about the condition.

Kenneth Gannon to take on Croagh Patrick for Brain Tumour Ireland

Westport's Kenneth Gannon will be embarking on a charity climb of Croagh Patrick on Saturday next, April 25 at 12 noon to raise money and awareness for Brain Tumour Ireland. This is not the first time that Kenneth has raised money for a brain tumour charity; in November 2010, he raised €7,119 for Brainwaves Northern Ireland from a very successful table quiz in Westport. After four and a half years, he is on the fundraising trail again, this time in aid of Brain Tumour Ireland.

Brain Tumour Ireland ‘Wellness Days’ go west

Brain Tumour Ireland is holding the latest in its series of ‘Wellness Days’ for brain tumour patients in Galway. The free event will take place on Saturday September 13 in the Cancer Care West Support Centre from 10am to 3.15pm.

The brain tumour support group in the western region is in existence since November 2006. It supports all those diagnosed with a brain tumour, their families and friends. The group meets once a month on the second Thursday of each month at 7.30pm in the Cancer Care West Centre, Seamus Quirke Road, Galway.

The Gibbons family in Shrule would like to thank all of those who came along to the coffee morning last Friday, or to those who donated in order to help raise funds for Gavin O'Hagan, who is currently in San Diego to be assessed for some critically necessary treatment for a brain tumour. The assessment went well and Gavin will be returning to San Diego in two months’ time for further treatment.

A charity mock wedding which takes place this St Valentine’s weekend aims to raise vital funds for a local cancer organisation.

Some 1,200 patients and their families availed of the services offered by a city based cancer support centre more than 5,500 times in the past year.

Art demonstration for Cancer Care West
