A new initiative has been launched to create smoke-free environments for children and young people in Galway City and County. The Not Around Us initiative helps to denormalise smoking for the next generation and is another step towards a Tobacco Free Galway. It also aims to create an environment where it is easier for those who smoke to quit, and stay quit. Healthy Galway City and Galway Children and Young People’s Services Committee (CYPSC) are leading the Not Around Us initiative for Galway.

An initiative to encourage more parents in Mayo to read to their children has been launched by the active and healthy 0-6 years subgroup of Mayo Children and Young People’s Services Committee (CYPSC), which states that "Reading to your baby and young child has been proven to help grow their brain, grow a bond between you, and helps develop their language, emotional literacy and creativity."
