Fat Freddy’s, Quay Street, and some wines to seek out

image preview

Fat Freddy’s restaurant has been a long-time member of the Quay Street restaurants, and I thought it would be a good idea to see if it has kept its menu and service ‘fresh up to date’. The menu is mainly pizza with a few alternates like chimichanga (toasted tortilla), enchiladas, quesadillas, and lasagne, various pastas, plus four or five different salads. My dining guest for the evening was my son, who has a big appetite, and he had already decided to have the sticky creole chicken wings for starter; alas that was not to be, none available, perhaps a good sign as the dish is apparently very good.

Capone’s restaurant, Kingston Road

I have passed by Capone’s restaurant many times since it opened and often thought that I should call in for a coffee or a bite to eat, however because I assumed the only parking area was across the road I kept on going. Nothing could be further from the truth; there is a car park at the rear and an underground car park. This is accessed from the Knocknacarra Cross end of the set of shops. In fact you can even park right at the back door and walk directly in as I did.

No 1 Pery Square Hotel and Spa Georgian Quarter, Limerick

You may be wondering why I have strayed from my usual turf all the way to Limerick; one reason is that with our new roads it is perhaps closer than you think, less than an hour to get there, and the second reason is that No 1 Pery Square is a jewel that really is worth a visit.

People in Westmeath are spending nearly €1,700 per year on alcohol; with men spending significantly more than women, at €2,123 and €1,329 respectively.

Research shows Mayo adults are consuming excessive amounts of alcohol

As part of Alcohol Awareness Month, new research from Aviva Health Insurance has revealed that people in Mayo are spending nearly €1,900 per year on alcohol, with men spending significantly more than women, at €2,067 and €1,713 respectively. The research also revealed that people are drinking excessively, with men consuming an average of 12 alcohol units per week and women consuming an average of nine. While this is below the recommended weekly limit of 21 units for men and 14 units for women, it raises concerns given that this limit identifies when damage is caused to one’s health by alcohol.
