Bord Gáis Networks’ award was for its case study on the application of Combined Heat and Power at Hotel Westport.  They recently presented the award to the Management Team at Hotel Westport in recognition of the work undertaken to reduce their CO2 emissions through the selection of a more environmentally friendly technology and fuel.

At a four and a half hour meeting on Monday evening in which Westport town councillors continued their discussion on a draft town development plan, a debate on the listing of the Record of Protected Structures, in which an inventory of 150 additional structures were recommended by the Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government, led to heated discussions as regards the inclusion of structures in Westport House and the Westport House Wall.

This year’s Westport Arts Festival, which runs from the October 2 to 11, features a number of interesting architecture-related events. Westport achieved the maximum five blooms at the international Communities in Bloom competition held in Canada last weekend. The awards honour municipalities from Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland, and Japan which foster civic pride, environmental responsibility, and beautification through community involvement and the challenge of a national programme, with focus on the promotion of green spaces in urban settings.
