There was plenty of action last weekend in both the Westmeath senior and intermediate football championships. Mullingar Shamrocks again highlighted their intent for the year with a 3-19 to 1-8 hammering of Maryland. Bunbrosna edged out Athlone by a point in a low scoring affair in Moate while Garrycastle had little trouble in seeing off the challenge of a disappointing Downs side.

The Shay Murtagh Westmeath senior football championship is in full swing with all but two clubs looking forward to their second championship outing this weekend. Athlone and Garrycastle both sat out the opening weekend of action last weekend but face Bunbrosna and The Downs respectively this weekend. They will then face each other in a standalone fixture on Sunday May 15.
