James Kilbane returns to the TF Royal Theatre on Friday night, May 11 when he brings his Gravel and Grace country concert to Mayo’s premier venue at 8pm. This concert is in association with Western Care. Special guests on the night will include Ballinrobe singer, Jenny Mulvey from the summer show Legend of Grainne Mhaol, Glor Tire winner Eunice Moran from Ballaghaderreen, as well as upcoming country singer and Conor Duffy.

Celtic win appeal against league over Rival Arena

Castlebar Celtic’s appeal to the Connacht FA over the Mayo League’s decision to close the €600,000 Rival Arena to adult football was won by the club on Wednesday night. Celtic PRO Noel Coll said yesterday, “The club is happy that the appeal was successful and we’re just looking to put this behind us and get on with what we are here to do and that’s run a football club. We just want to move on and get back to playing football.”

Chi-gong workshops for Western Care Association

Arend Wijmenga, a fourth dan grade tai chi instructor, is conducting two two-hour Chi-gong workshops in aid of Western Care in the Ruby Room, Royal Theatre, Castlebar, tomorrow (Saturday) from 10.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 3.30pm. Chi-gong seeks to heal the body by balancing the energy-flow within, strengthen what is deficient, and reduce excess. All this occurs through movement and breathing exercises whose primary aim is the systematic moving and balancing of the chi (energy) in the human body. The ba duan jin exercises can be practised standing and sitting, making them beneficial and suitable for all fitness levels and abilities. Fundrasing car wash and trad session in aid of Western Care next weekend

The management and staff of the Top Castlebar Oil Depot and filling station at Moneen, Castlebar, intend taking out sponges, squeegees, and brushes for a charity car-wash day on Friday next, September 9, to raise much needed funds for Western Care Association. Tomas Geraghty, business development manager for Top Castlebar Oil, who is organising the event, is appealing to everybody who is in Castlebar on Friday next to drop into Top Castlebar Oil in Moneen where their vehicle will receive a thorough ‘shampoo and shower’ and will be returned to the road in gleaming condition. All funds raised on the day will go towards the replacement of a vehicle at Western Care’s residential service for young adults at Pontoon Drive, Castlebar.

Men in taxi rank brawl before court

Two men who were involved in an incident at a taxi rank in Castlebar, on December 14 2009, where Judge Mary Devins found both guilty of assault, appeared at this week’s sitting of Castlebar District Court for sentencing.
