Galway’s young athletes returned home from the 123.ie National Juvenile Indoor Championships with a major medal haul across a range of events.

Galway athletes delivered a series of outstanding performances at the 123.ie National U20 and U23 Indoor Championships held over the weekend at the TUS International Arena in Athlone.

The stars of Irish athletics will take to national competition this weekend as the 123.ie National Indoor Athletics Championships take centre stage at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena across February 28 and March 1.

The Galway Men’s Team won County Gold for the third year in a row, under manager Siobhan Kelleher, sharing the podium with Donegal and Kerry. The squad were led by Justin Lane, the inspirational captain of the men's team, and he also won the Pole Vault in a fine 2.30m clearance. He was fifth in the weight for Distance Throw.

Emma Moore of Galway City Harriers placed seventh in a competitive heat over 800m individually, and later in the championships was instrumental on the Women's 4x400m team who set a new national U23 record in their heat. The quartet of Moore, Kate O'Connell (Lucan Harriers), Victoria Amiadamen (Dooneen AC), and Jenna Breen (City of Lisburn AC) clocked a time of 3:34.81 to dip under the previous record (3:34.87) set in 2017.

Lauren Kilduff of Craughwell AC topped the weekend’s performances by becoming U18 National Champion in the 400m Hurdles and broke the Championship record with a time of 60:33. Clubmate Emma O’Donovan took home bronze in 62.44.

Emma Moore of Galway City Harriers will compete over 800m individually following her great early season performances, and also is chosen on the 4x400m Relay team. Andrew Egan will also compete in the 200m and the 4x400m events.

It was one of a host of medals for Galway athletes over the two days of competition.

Two days of the National Indoor Track and Field championships for U12s to U19s took place last weekend. Galway athletes excelled taking home multiple national medals, with notable success in the Race Walking events.
