Mayo schools will take part in Green-Schools’ National Walk to School Week 2017, the ninth annual celebration of walking to school, which takes place from Monday, May 15 to  Friday, May 19 in schools across the country. Schools hope to encourage students, families and teachers to enjoy walking to school and to focus on continuing to journey to school on foot into the summer months – and all year round.

The annual 5 mile Menlo walk in aid of Ability West is celebrating ten years and the community walk is looking to raise a bumper €10,000 to mark the occasion. The walk will take place on Sunday 12th February. The walk will start at 12 noon from Scoil Bhride Menlo, Galway City.

As part of the partnership between Western Care Association and the Kavanagh Group marking the associations 50 year anniversary, the Kavanagh Group is delighted to announce a Fun Run-Walk-Jog event. A series of fun walks are to take place across the county on Sunday, June 5 and Monday, June 6 next. Each walk will consist of a 5k and 10k route options, and refreshments will be available afterwards in each store. Mayo will celebrate the centenary of the 1916 rising on Sunday, May 1 when Castlebar hosts a 1916 county parade and family fun day, which is being backed by Mayo County Council. The County Mayo 1916 commemoration parade and Family fun day,  provides a great opportunity for communities and groups from all across Mayo to get involved.
