A women’s group from the Newpark Close Family Resource Centre held a balloon release last Friday morning, as part of the ‘16 days of Action against domestic violence’ campaign.

This year marks the 21st year of the global 16 Days of Action Opposing Violence against Women. Violence against women is an enormous problem in Ireland with thousands of women experiencing rape, physical assaults, emotional and financial abuse and many other forms of exploitation every day.

The walk will commence in Eyre Square and participants will walk down Shop Street as far as Cross Street, then up Quay Street and back to the Square with one loop around Eyre Square to the finish. The walk is open to men and women and their families.

COPE is calling on the men of Galway to take a stand against domestic violence by donning women’s high heels and taking part in a sponsored walk for the charity.
