Celebrity teams go head to head at the inaugural Ironman Ireland next month

Some of Ireland’s most popular celebrities will find themselves in unchartered water this September as they take part in the first IRONMAN IRELAND 70.3. Famous faces such as Today FM’s Ray D’Arcy and Jenny Kelly, singer Brian Kennedy, and TV presenters Gráinne Seoige and Katherine Thomas will all be seen participating in the IRONMAN 70.3 Team Relay. Roseanna Davidson and Keith Barry will also be in attendance to support the teams who all train at the same gym, Byrne Fitness in Dublin. Indeed Paul Byrne and Keith Duffy will both be competing on behalf of Irish Autism Action.

Kilkenny triathlete Niamh Richardson claimed 3rd place in the Olympic distance TriGrandPrix which took place on Saturday. Over 800 athletes descended on the Marble city to compete in what was the biggest triathlon to take place in Ireland this month.

This week a bunch of beautiful Irish Roses including the Westmeath Rose gathered together to explain “It’s as easy as one, two, three” to take part in the 2011 Waterways Ireland triAthlone. The eight Roses from all over Ireland bunched together to kick off the official countdown to Ireland’s biggest annual triathlon event which takes place next Saturday July 2 in Athlone.

Kilkenny triathletes compete in Ireland’s fastest triathlon

Congratulations to the all members of the Kilkenny Triathlon Club who took part in what was billed as the country’s fastest triathlon event, The Tri-Athy over the June Bank Holiday weekend.

Coosan Point charity swim

The Coosan Point charity swim will be held on Tuesday June 7 at 7pm. There will be four categories: 200m, 750m, 1,500m, and 3,000m. All entrants will get a number and time from it. The swim is just over three weeks before the TriAthlone and so would be a great opportunity for anyone training for the triathlon on July 2. Wetsuits are mandatory.

All roads lead to Tri-Burgh 2011

June 4 sees the return of Tri-Burgh to Louisburgh. With more than 200 competitors it is sure to be a great day for all. Building on the success of the 2010 event organiser Robert Henaghan has expanded the appeal of the race by adding a sprint option so people can take part as individuals or teams over the two distances; Olympic or sprint. The distances include a swim (1500/750m) bike (40/20km) and finally run (10/5km). Full details of the course are available on www.triburgh.ie
