Claregalway locals to plant 5,000 trees this weekend at Knockdoemore Park

Every week, Knockdoemore Park near Claregalway is home to almost 2,000 people running, walking, stretching, jumping. The players of Claregalway GAA train and play on the three pitches; the young athletes of Clare River Harriers jump and run in one corner; walkers and joggers use the floodlit and gravelled 1km circuit to build up fitness; the scouts practise their routines and learn their skills in another corner.

Tree Week runs from March 5-12. Organised by the Tree Council of Ireland, it has been running since 1985 in association with Coillte, local authorities, and sponsor Applegreen.

Coillte hosts tree identification event in Belleek Woods during Tree Week

Last week Coillte hosted a tree identification walk attended by Culleens National School as part of ESB Tree Week 2016. This was one of the events that Coillte hosted as part Tree Week 2016, along with a series of nature walks and tree planting events to inspire people to experience the positive role that trees play in our lives. In addition Coillte donated 15,000 trees that were planted by community groups and schools all around the country, bringing thousands of people together to get their hands dirty, and add more green to neighbourhoods all around the country.
