Renault launches scrappage scheme and new Clio

Last month Renault Ireland launched a scrappage scheme for the Irish market. Motorists can cash in on a €1,500 bounty which is redeemable on the purchase of any new Renault car and/or light commercial vehicle, when you scrap your car with any of their dealerships. It says that the scheme is for motor vehicles of all makes and models that are over eight years old. The offer comes in addition to a trade-in allowance.

Mitsubishi Motors will be showing a total of 16 cars at the 41st Tokyo Motor Show later this month. Among cars on display at the Mitsubishi Motor stand include two concept electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle. They will be the Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV and the i-MiEV CARGO, the i-MiEV new-generation electric vehicle for which the company is currently accepting pre-orders for the start of sales to individual customers in April 2010.

New cycling and walking route to be developed in Westport

The Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey, has announced that he is making €620,000 in the period 2009 to 2012 available to Westport Town Council to develop a new walking and cycling greenway in Westport town, linking Westport Quay to Knockranny. The project will be largely based on an existing network of disused railway lines and will create new cycling and walking links between Westport’s urban areas, residential areas, and schools. The new greenway aims to encourage a shift to cycling and walking over short urban journeys. The overall cost of the scheme is €1.04m, with Westport Town Council funding the remaining €420,000.
