Ballina Town Council sees Local Government grant cut by 8.5 per cent for 2012
Ballina Town Council has seen its funding from central government through the Local Government Fund cut by €118,563 for 2012, a reduction of 8.5 per cent on the amount it received last year. When looked at on a five year basis the reduction in the funding from the Local Government Fund has been reduced by €520,754 since 2008. The total reduction in all state grants for Ballina in the past five years is expected to be down €632,222 this year.
Ballina Town Council gets tough on antisocial behaviour
The elected members of Ballina Town Council this week adopted a new antisocial behaviour policy this week, which they worked out in committee recently. The new policy, which has its foundations in a county wide policy, saw a number of different changes brought in by the Ballina councillors to address flaws and issues they thought were not covered sufficiently by the county wide document. As part of their policy there will be quarter yearly meetings between the Gardaí, the council, an the HSE to discuss items that arise. They have also included provisions that anyone who is in housing provided by another agency and are on the council’s housing list can be excluded from the list for 10 years following the issuing of an antisocial behaviour order.

Castlebar Town Council are preparing to publish new draft parking bye laws to go hand in hand with the rejuvenation works in the middle of the town. As part of the draft, the parking for taxis on Main Street in the town will be reduced to three spaces during the day on the east side of the street beside Parsons shops with extra spaces becoming taxi spaces in the evening time.

It emerged at the June meeting of Castlebar Town Council that the local authority spent almost €2,000 each week last year on legal fees.
