Connacht title for Roger Barrett

Fresh from his third place finish at the Tubbercurry 10K on St Patrick's Day Roger Barrett, Ballina AC, travelled to Sligo for the Connacht senior cross country championships last weekend. Barrett was further rewarded for the hard work he gives to training when he ran a fantastic race and beat off all contenders to secure the senior title. He was followed closely behind by Liam Feeley of north Leitrim in second place and Tommy Kelly, north Sligo, in third. The only other Mayo athlete to compete was Sean Gallagher, Ballina AC, who finished in eighth place overall.

Four men and a company have been charged under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act in relation to the death of John Knight in an industrial incident on March 6, 2006 at Forest Park, Mullingar Industrial Estate.

Croke Park and an All-Ireland final is now their final date with destiny at intermediate level, and roses and chocolates will have to be temporarily replaced by flags, hats, and headbands. The city club has really caught the imagination these last few months and as a reward for their majestic win over Ballyroan last Sunday they will face St Michael's, Foilmore (Kerry), in the final under lights at 7.45pm on Saturday February 14.

Trial to go ahead over death machine

Four men and the company they worked for are to be tried in the Circuit Court next month in relation to the death of an employee in March 2006.
