Tight battle expected in Sunday showdown

After 13 games in the Welcome Inn Hotel Premier A Division, they cannot be separated on points, but come Sunday either Conn Rangers or Swinford FC will be heading home with a piece of silverware for the winter when they meet in the Westaro Cup final. Special Olympics table tennis event a big success for Mayo athletes

Special Olympics athletes showed off their table tennis talents at the Regional event held in GMIT, Castlebar recently. Over 60 athletes from Mayo, Galway and Roscommon, Longford competed on the day. Players battled in out over singles and doubles competition throughout the day.

Iorras look to keep hold of top spot

Michael S Togher’s Iorras Aontaithe went back to the top of the Super League last weekend thanks to a comprehensive 3-0 win over the previous table toppers Westport United in Carne, it was the second time in a couple of days the teams had faced each other. Westport United won the first meeting 2-1 to take the lead in the Super League table before the Barony men struck back in the second tie to go two points clear of Westport.

Iorras stay top as Ballina slip up again

Iorras Aontaithe stayed top of the Mayo Super League last weekend after they came from two goals down to beat Snugboro United in Carne last weekend, while champions Ballina Town were surprisingly overturned by Castlebar Celtic in Celtic Park. Iorras have a 100 per cent record from their six games so far and are now four points clear of Ballina and have a game in hand. But they had to do it the hard way last weekend; Sean Curry put the visitors one up earlier on and they doubled their lead shortly after when David Colleran headed home their second.

Duffy back in the international frame

Ballina Town striker Michael Duffy has been called up to the Irish junior side, the north Mayo hit man has already picked up one international cap in 2008 against the USA, during a period when he was in a rich vein of goal scoring form. But over the past two seasons he has suffered from a number of bad injuries which curtailed his playing time. He did come back last season to help Ballina Town finally claim the Super League title. Duffy has been called up for a quadrangular tournament involving the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man which will take place in County Down from next Wednesday April 21 to Saturday April 24.

Chadwicks Cup final draws a conclusion to the end of long season
