Organised water safety in Ireland really began in Milltown Malbay, Co Clare in the 1930s when a lady drowned there. This galvanised the local community into forming a Water Safety Association to help swimmers who got into trouble. The idea spread through Co Clare and eventually to the whole country. The national water safety section, set up by the government, was run by the Red Cross.

Exciting west of Ireland band Bees & Sawdust, will debut their new EP, Euphoriac, in the Roisin Dubh on Thursday, January 19. The band, who became official in 2021, have been working hard on their music and live performing, and have already played the Roisin Dubh many times - which has helped them develop quite a loyal following. In their own words, they love hard tunes, cold brews and long walks on the beach.

Galway commercial property sold by tender

The high profile Faustina Building on the Tuam Road in Galway has sold for in excess of €1.7 million through sales agents TWM. The vacant commercial building, which was in shell and core condition, was sold by TWM on behalf of receiver Tom Kavanagh of Deloitte.
