Castlebar falls in IBAL anti-litter league

The latest survey by business group Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) shows Castlebar in joint 35th position in the ranking of 40 towns and cities and deemed “littered”. The town was judged to be ‘clean’ and finished in 23rd spot in last year’s rankings.

Panel Duct, a company which won the top prize at the InterTradeIreland Innovation awards last year is now in the final stages of fitting out a 40,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Castlebar. The company, founded by Pat Walsh, managing director of Panel Duct Ireland, has taken over a premises on the Breaffy Road and has support from Enterprise Ireland to provide 20 immediate jobs with the potential for a five fold growth in the coming three years to 100 jobs.

People Before Profit candidate hits out at Tesco

Tesco has announced that long serving members of staff are on ‘inflexible contracts’ and are demanding that they take wage cuts. Tom Moran, the People Before Profit General Election candidate, has claimed: “This move reflects the true nature of the Irish recovery — it is being built on a low wage economy. About 1,000 members of Tesco staff are affected and it would mean a cut of €2.35 (16.5 per cent) per hour for workers earning €14.31. Over a whole year, it would lead to a minimum reduction of €6,591 per worker."
