New taekwon-do classes in south Galway

The taekwon-do teaching team of Shane Fitzgibbon and Lisa Connolly have started new classes in south Galway. For those new to the art, taekwon-do is a Korean self defence system/martial art which provides numerous physical and mental health benefits. World Championship success for Athlone Taekwon-do trio

Members of Mary Mannion’s Athlone Taekwon-do Academy represented Ireland in the International Taekwon-do Federation World Championships in South Korea recently. Mannion herself competed as did her students, Leon Brydone and Dylan Lacey. As well as competing in the individual categories, Dylan represented Ireland on the junior teams. Brydone featured on the men’s senior team. The current European champion sacrificed the individual sparring to save himself for the team due to a recovering injury.

Galway Taekwon-do instructor takes three gold in Germany

Local taekwon-do instructor, Shane Fitzgibbon has recently returned from a successful trip to Germany where he captained the Irish team in the German International Championships. The tournament was also attended by contestants from Czech Republic, Netherlands, and Spain. Fitzgibbon was accompanied by Listowel student (currently training in Galway) Padraig O’ Connor.
