People of the Tribes: Meet Clíodhna.

Haigh, is mise Clíodhna! I was born and raised in Dublin, but I have been living in Galway since 2008. I have strong family connections to the picturesque village of Spiddal and decided to move to Galway for college, where I completed a BA in Mathematics and Nua-Ghaeilge and an MA in Nua-Ghaeilge from NUIG. I have always been interested in fashion and style, and would spend hours dressing up in my Mamó’s clothing running my own little fashion shows! I have fourteen years fashion retail experience and I am currently employed as the senior stylist and visual merchandiser in the Lanidor boutique on 30 Eyre St. One of the greatest things about working in retail is that you never know where the day is going to take you and no two days in Lanidor boutique are the same. I love helping people find their style and updating their wardrobes with new pieces from the shop. I have a very creative mind and my role in Lanidor gives me the opportunity to do a job that I am very passionate about, a place where I can let my personal creativity shine through and work off my own initiative doing a job that I love.

How Aran looked in the 1930s

When Thomas H Mason stepped onto the pier at Kilronan, Inishmór, in the summer of 1932, he described his feelings of surprise and sense of confusion. Writing in his masterly The Islands of Ireland * he realised that he was plunged into an Ireland he did not recognise. As an Irishman coming from the east coast, and geographically still in Ireland - he believed that he could have been 1,000 miles from Dublin.
