Top finish for Buckley on Midland rally

Ballyhaunis rally driver Shane Buckley brought his Citroen C2R2 Max home in a fine eighth place overall on Sunday's Moto Midlands Stages Rally. As well as winning class six by nearly three minutes, Buckley and co-driver Thomas Maguire from Meath were the second highest placed front wheel drive finishers on the Rooskey based event. Indeed they had been as high as fifth overall before losing time on the last batch of stages with a wrong tyre choice.

Melvyn Evans and Patrick Walsh stormed to victory on the 2010 McWilliam Hotel Mayo Stages Rally to become only the second overseas winners of the event in its 34 year history. The Welshmen proved that lack of local knowledge was no obstacle to success, as they set a string of impressive stage times on what was their first appearance in Mayo. It was their second National Rally Championship victory in the space of two weeks.
