Dolan looks for speed reduction in housing estates

Councillor John Dolan is calling for a reduction in the speed limits in residential areas. Speaking at last week’s September meeting of Athlone Municipal District, Fine Gael councillor said that a change of the council bylaws to allow for 30km/h speed limits in all estates and residential areas that lie inside a 50km/h zone was essential for the safety of pedestrians.

Finn calls for speed ramps to be installed in estates

Speaking at the Claremorris Electoral Area meeting last week Independent councillor Richard Finn, referring to speeding in estates in all towns, said that Mayo County Council will have to do something about the problem. He said local residents are annoyed and sometimes fearful for their safety due to the lack of speed ramps in estates which would serve to calm speeding and the racing ethos which has crept in over the past 10 years.

Speed ramps required for Chapel Street and Parnell Square

In this month’s Athlone Town Council meeting, Cllr Mick O’Connell will be calling on the council to install additional speed ramps in Parnell Square and Chapel Street.
