Battle of the Bands back at The Prince

February sees the return of the successful Battle of the Bands competition at The Prince Bar, Athlone. Last year’s competition saw Sligo-based band The Quakers battle their way through the heats to the grand final where a nail-biting competition on the night resulted in them taking the top prize.

These tour operators are responsible for making the travel arrangements for a range of large groups across the United States – including choral, pilgrimage, Christian heritage and educational groups. Their fact-finding visit was a fantastic opportunity to showcase what Mayo and Ireland has to offer such groups. They enjoyed a tour of Westport House before visiting the Croagh Patrick Visitor Centre and the National Famine Monument in Murrisk. Carefully selected and invited here by Tourism Ireland in New York, the itinerary for the tour operators was designed by Fáilte Ireland.

Amit Mediratta to launch his collection of writings

Artist and philosopher Amit Mediratta will launch his 13th collection of writings, Exile Songs and other Poems, in Charlie Byrne's Bookshop next week. The collection will gather together work previously published at his exhibition openings in limited quantity, and will be the first definitive edition of his early poetry - beautifully presented on vellum paper and hand-signed in silver ink. The title will be produced by Amit Mediratta Publications, the imprint established by the artist last year.

Mayo craft enterprises secure funding

The Western Development Commission (WDC) is delighted to be partnering with the Crafts Council of Ireland (CCoI) this year to co-fund CCoI’s International Fair Fund.
