Provincial glory up for grabs

The weekend ahead sees Mayo handballers in action in no fewer than nine provincial deciders. Gearoid Hughes takes on Roscommon’s Brendan McDonagh in the junior B singles decider this Friday evening at Williamstown at 7pm while Ian McLoughlin will be bidding for under 21 glory in the second match at Williamstown. Martin Vahey is in action at the same venue on Saturday at 5pm as he takes on Roscommon’s Aengus Cunningham in the masters A final and that card also features Joe Dowling against Anthony O’Donnell and John Coyne against Shane Noonan. David Corrigan takes on Galway’s Martin Seoige in the junior C decider at Liascul on Sunday at 3pm.

The St Patrick’s Day 5K DASH organised by Kilkenny City Harriers and Kilkenny Fit4Life Club proved to be an enjoyable and very successful event with just over 250 taking to the road and a further 100 plus juveniles on the track. Mayor Malcolm Noonan started the run which commenced at The Watershed and followed a course along the Bennettsbridge Road, a circle of The Castle Park and back to The Watershed.

Kilkenny City Harriers played host for the County Kilkenny short course cross-country races on Sunday. Thanks to Bretts Sawmills, Sion Road, who provided the field, an excellent course was marked out and the sun came out to provide a feeling of summer.
