Taoiseach opens state of the art Primary Care Centre

On Monday, An Taoiseach Enda Kenny officially opened the brand new Ballina Primary Care Centre in Ballina, the first of its kind in the county. The centre, which is a venture between Drs Tom and Sean Moffatt in partnership with the HSE, will provide primary care services to a large number of people in the Ballina area.

James Horan takes up the challenge

The future of Mayo football was given a new direction on Wednesday night when James Horan was appointed as the new manager of the Mayo senior football team for a term of three years. The Ballintubber manager who this year guided his club to their first senior county final was put forward by the five man interview committee and ratified by the county board delegates at a county board meeting. Horan won two All Stars during his playing career for the county, lining out 57 times for Mayo between his debut in 1995 in the national football league and his last game in 2002 against Cork in the All Ireland quarter final. He scored 4-83 for Mayo over his seven year inter county career. Horan’s back room team will be made up of James Nallen, Martin Connolly and Paul Jordan, Tom Prendergast, Dr Sean Moffatt, Paul O’Grady, Joe Dawson, Liam Moffatt, and Ed Coughlan.

Taoiseach on Mayo visit today

Taoiseach Brian Cowen is in Mayo today to officiate at a number of celebratory events taking place in the area including the launch of a brand new €7 million campus for two treasured special schools in Ballina. Mr Cowen is due to arrive at 12 noon and to remain in the north Mayo area for a number of hours where he will first raise the Green Flag at Carha National School in Bonniconlon before launching the official opening of St Dymphna’s and St Nicholas’ Special Schools. Both Western Care funded schools have been operating successfully for some years and are now celebrating the move into state-of-the-art new premises.

Ballina primary care centre to open next spring

The new 20,000 sq ft Ballina Primary Care Centre, which is due to open in spring 2011, will bring together a team of independent and HSE healthcare professionals to deliver integrated primary healthcare to the people and GPs of the area. The centre will also provide new services including a dedicated sports injury and rehabilitative clinic, medical imaging and a range of allied medical services.
