Back in the 1960s my late mother had a two-door Morris Mini-Minor. The mini, about the size of a dog-kennel on wheels, was our family car for years (dad drove a van used for deliveries). I think the mini won the Monte Carlo Rally at one time and it became famous. Towards the end of the decade it actually became cool to have a Mini-Minor after the film The Italian Job, starring Michael Caine. But my brother and I had long legs, and the car became a torture chamber on long journeys. We hated the car. There was little room for us and later for my sister, and all her stuff, the dog (who went ballistic if he saw another dog on the street), the weekly shopping, and all the detritus that family cars gather.

Sean Keane will be performing three special concerts in the Salthill Hotel that will benefit three local organisations. These form part of a series of concerts he will embark on for the coming years up to 2020. Galway has been very special place in his musical development and a new song entitled 'Galway I'm Missing You' will be released to coincide with these concerts.

Singer Sean Keane will bring his highly successful show Christmas by the Hearth to Roscommon Arts Centre on December 8 at 8pm. Sean will be joined on stage by Fergus Feely, Pat Coyne, Stephen Doherty, and David Doocey.

Roscommon Arts Centre have just unveiled their Autumn/Winter Events Brochure and with over 50 events taking place from September to December, there is no excuse not to find something to suit every taste.

Castlebar Live presents nationally known folk singer, John Spillane, in concert this Sunday, July 31. The show will take place in Hoban's car park and is free to attend. Music kicks off at 6pm. and you will be kept entertained right through to 11.30pm. Castlebar band Jam Shugar will host the event and support acts include Uppbeat and Identity Thief.

July 2.The band consists of Stephen Doherty on flutes, accordion, and percussion, David Doocey on fiddle, Anne Brennan on vocals, and Shane McGowan on guitars. Between them, they have toured, performed, and recorded with a who's who of artists including Sharon Shannon, Sean and Dolores Keane, Lúnasa, Gráda, Tim O’Brien, Paul Brady, and Dave Munnelly.
