THERE ARE plenty of great trad music and song events taking place across Galway city and county as part of Seachtain na Gaeilge.

In celebration of Seachtain na Gaeilge , 5th-17th March, Adrian Devane, creater of the world wide success story, Bábógbaby, the Irish-speaking Teddy Bear is offering Galway Advertiser readers the chance to win one of two Bábógbabies.

The Galway business community will launch a new initiative this Monday where they are inviting the public to speak as much Irish as possible while doing their shopping.

The official launch of Seachtain na Gaeilge will take place in the Ballina Manor Hotel, Barrett Street, Ballina on March 1 at 8pm with Seán Ó Cuirreáin, language commissioner. All are welcome.

Seachtain na Gaeilge, which runs from March 5 to 17, is a celebration of Irish language, culture, and heritage. It offers the chance for people to practice their cúpla focail, to celebrate ‘leabhar power’ by reading books as Gaeilge, or even to try a language course. Seachtain na Gaeilge in Mayo will be launched in Ireland West Airport, Knock, on Wednesday March 2 at 8.30pm.

Seachtain na Gaeilge in Áras Inis Gluaire kicks off with a special Cineclub na nÓg event for children at noon on Saturday March 12 . This includes a film, a quiz and games. €10 per child.
