Boost to local economy thanks to clever business networking

Mayo business owners are celebrating the generation of €2.5 million worth of business thanks to effective networking. The Mayo BNI group, which is made up of 14 local business people, work together not only to build their own businesses but also the local economy. The networking group supports more than 65 jobs locally, with this set to grow in the coming months with new business wins among members.

Successful community futures and rural networking event

A very successful networking event was held at the end of October, in the Harlequin Hotel, Castlebar. The event was hosted by Mayo Community Futures and the Rural Alliances EU project from Mayo County Council. Local communities which had participated in the Community Futures community planning programme and the recently formed Rural Alliances came together to share ideas and learn from their individual experiences. The event was open to all communities which had participated in the Mayo Community Futures programme, Rural Alliances, County Community Forum members, and members of the Community Futures management sub-committee, and was well attended on the night.

Members of the St Colmans Business Network International Chapter, Claremorris, had cause to celebrate recently after they were recognised as being among the top BNI chapters in Ireland. The group of local business people were announced as the most improved BNI chapter in Ireland south and west, and were also awarded first place in Ireland west in a European wide competition which focused on “Doing the basics brilliantly”, a word of mouth marketing programme which ran throughout the summer months.
