A tide of maroon and white emotion continues to envelop the county as the Westmeath senior footballers, management and supporters savour and embrace the memories being created following Tailteann Cup success in Croke Park on Saturday last.

A competitive season which commenced with a National Football League Division 3 victory over Wicklow in January will culminate in the surrounds of Croke Park on Saturday evening as Westmeath aim to become the inaugural winners of the Tailteann Cup.

When Westmeath step on to the hallowed Croke Park surface on Saturday it will be the team’s fourth fixture in the inaugural Tailteann Cup competition, a journey to this showpiece occasion which commenced with a three point victory over Laois in O’Moore Park, on May 29.

The quest for Tailteann Cup silverware continues for the Westmeath senior footballers, a hard earned three point victory over perennial championship rivals, Laois, securing a quarter final berth in a competition which is gaining further traction as it progresses towards the latter stages.

Scoring 25 points in a competitive contest usually results in a positive outcome but alas, for the Westmeath senior footballers, the achieving of such a scoring feat was to no avail on Saturday in Pairc Ui Chaoimh as hosts, Cork, condemned the visitors to the third tier of national league football.
