Flynn hits out at planners for planning permisson refusal

Fine Gael councillor Peter Flynn this week hit out at the decision of planners from Mayo County Council to refuse planning permission for a house in the Rooskey area of Westport. Flynn told the meeting the reason that the application was refused by the planners was, “the house was not in line with the characteristic of houses in the area” according to the planners.

Martin Murray totally outclassed his opponent Connor Myers from Shannon, while mum of two Yvonne McNevin easily outscored her Kilkenny opponent Mags Walsh over the three rounds in her first outing. IKF All Ireland welterweight champ Alex Novac took the laurels in an international bout against Andrew Davis from Wales.Novac, who holds the title at 67kg, weighed in at 69.5 for the fight on Sunday while the Welshman tipped the scales at 71.9kg. Novac will now drop back to welterweight to make a mandatory first defence of his title against No 1 contender John O' Shea on October 17 and this fight will again be in Kilkenny.

Growing numbers are registering for The Bogtrotters Marathon, a new event taking place in Strokestown, Co Roscommon on July 24 for runners and walkers of all abilities.

Public consultation exhibitions announced for N4 route

Locals are being invited to make their views known on the N4 Mullingar to Longford (Roosky) road scheme, with a series of public consultation exhibitions to take place next week.
