Rumley and Walsh to be honoured with Henry Downes award

Next Friday night (December 6) in the Welcome Inn Hotel the Mayo League will honour the best performers of the year at its annual awards night. The league has selected teams of the year across all five divisions of the Mayo League, from the Super League to League Two, and team of the year for the Masters competitions it runs. It will also announce on the night the player of the year in each division.

Galway students Excel in International Irish Championships

A selection of students from Shane Fitzgibbon’s “Connacht Taekwon-do Schools” recently attended the International Irish Championships in Neptune Stadium, Cork. With representation from seven European countries, the standard was extremely high. The local group held their own however to bring back a fine haul of silverware. The Galway instructors who attended were Shane Fitzgibbon (Galway and Oranmore), Lisa Connolly (Labane & Kinvara), Sally Whelan (Barna) and Sandra Doyle (Loughrea). The results were as follows: Black belt results —Shane Fitzgibbon – Gold, silver, bronze; Cillian Howard (Oranmore) – bronze; Shannon Holland (Galway) – bronze; Kenneth Duignan (Galway) – bronze; Cathal Kilbane (Galway) - silver; Jason Costello (Oranmore) - bronze; Sandra Doyle (Galway) - bronze; Ciaran Doyle (Galway) - bronze. Best Western Flannery's Hotel wins Best of the Best award

The Irish annual meeting of all Best Western hotels in Ireland was held in Best Western Flannery's Hotel in Galway last week when the host hotel was named the Best of the Best in terms of quality and customer service.

TV master chef and author Clodagh McKenna will be the star attraction when Achill Island revives its traditional Féile Bia Na Mara from July 9 to 12. The Achill Seafood Festival is supported by Bord Iascaigh Mhara, the Irish Sea Fisheries Board, and Údarás na Gaeltachta.
