Town Mayor, Cllr. Frankie Keena, has stressed the urgent need to implement adequate flood preventative measures for those living in rural areas of the local community presently effected by the rising flood waters.

Galway city to get close to €10 million for flood protection measures

The elected members were given a presentation by senior executive engineer Dave Mellett in regard to how the council should make a submission to the OPW on the Draft Flood Risk Management Plan for the Moy and Kilalla Bay and Erriff, Clew Bay, Blacksod, Broadhaven.

Shannon levels fall but flood defences remain in place

The level of the River Shannon in Athlone has fallen by 51cm since its peak on January 5 and is predicted to fall further over the coming days, according to a report issued by Westmeath County Council on Tuesday.
