to a five point winning margin over arch rivals Raharney in a well contested county final in Cusack Park last Sunday. This win sees them collect back-to-back titles and their 13th title in total. It also ends their Raharney hoodoo having lost to their familiar opponents in 2008 and 2010.

Raharney and Clonkill booked their place in this year’s decider thanks to wins over Oliver Plunkett’s and Castletown respectively last weekend. In the first of the semis Raharney were never really troubled by a disappointing Plunkett’s showing.

This year’s Organ Donor Awareness Week campaign will take place from April 2 to 9, with several fundraising events to take place in Westmeath. The life saving awareness campaign is organised by the Irish Kidney Association and supported by the Irish Donor Network.

A - Athlone GAA Club celebrated their 125th year in existence. It was an honour for me to be captain 50 years on from the first of the famous six-in-a-row wins. Unfortunately we added no silverware at senior level. Making the knockout stages was progress and hopes are high that we can build on that in 2011. Our u14s won the Feile and u16s won the county title indicating a bright future for the club.
