The long road of the new Mayo League season took its first steps last weekend with the opening rounds of action in both the Super League and the Premier Division taking place. Ballina Town have five players in this year's Super League team of the year as the north Mayo men, who claimed the title in style last year, have seen Mark Duffy, Derek Tansey, Jamie Cawley, Dylan Edwards and Brendan Lavelle all named in the 2019 team.

League and cup winners Ballina Town won the team of the month award, while Ballyhaunis Town manager Tommy Page, who guided his side to promotion to the top flight for next year - along with winning the Premier Cup - was rewarded with the manager of the month award.

The battle to avoid the drop to the Premier Division has gone right down to the wire this season.

This Sunday will see the clash of the two top sides in the Premier Division in the Connacht Gold Premier Cup Final in Solar 21 Park at 2pm.

With two rounds of games left in the top flight the battle to avoid the drop is the big issue still at play - Iorras Aontaithe have already been relegated back down to the Premier Division for next season, having picked up just two wins in their 16 games to date.
