MAYO Rose Hannah Ferguson is rallying her supporters to follow her to Portlaoise, for the Rose of Tralee Regional Festival from this weekend. It is a major tourism event on the Irish festivals calendar attracting 60 Roses, their families, friends, and festival-goers from Ireland and around the world.

A 25-year-old woman who hails from outside Crossmolina is gearing up for the Rose of Tralee regional finals this weekend where she hopes to be one of six out of 29 Roses to be selected to go through to the prestigious festival in Tralee later this summer.

Since she was old enough to walk and talk Chloe Hitchcock has wanted to be the Rose of Tralee. The 19-year-old Kilkenny girl from the Castlecomer Road may now have her dream realised when she took the crown at the Kilkenny Rose selection.

Mayo has begun its search for entrants to represent the county in the Rose of Tralee International Festival which celebrates 50 years in 2009.
