Councillors welcome news that pontoons will be placed at Rosmoney Pier

Westport area councillors welcomed the news that breakwater type pontoons are to be installed at Rosmoney Pier. The pontoons will be installed off the northwest corner of the existing pier at Rosmoney and will be held in place by steel circular hollow section piles and accessed from the pier by means of an access walkway.

Mayo County Council turns small revenue surplus on year

Mayo County Council recorded a surplus of €239,866 on its revenue account for 2011 according to its annual financial statement which was adopted at this week’s meeting of the council. The surplus was recorded on a turnover of €147 million last year. County manager Peter Hynes told the meeting: “We’re under significant pressure and it is good to have made a small surplus in a tough year, a lot of organisations would like to be in this position.”

Borrowing cost of Mayo County Council overdraft is €900,000 a year

The elected members of Mayo County Council approved a €30 million overdraft for 2012 at the November meeting of the local authority this week. The €30 million figure is a €5 million drop from the figure approved for 2011. Head of finance for Mayo County Council Peter Duggan told the members the reason for the reduction in the overdraft limit was because of a reduced capital works programme for the coming year.
