In Galway, €1,049,984 (2010: €727,813) was awarded in respect of 32 (2010: 29 awards) personal injury workplace claims.

Personal injury claimants in Mayo encouraged to make claims directly

Personal injury claimants will be better placed to avoid unnecessary legal fees following a recent move by the Central Bank to compel insurance companies to forward information about the Injuries Board to potential claimants as soon as they become aware of the potential claim. The move — which came into force on January 1 2012 — could result in savings of upwards of €2,000 per claim or up to €20 million per annum according to the Injuries Board.

Significant cost savings are emerging for insurance providers in respect of personal injury claims and these savings should translate to lower insurance premiums for consumers and businesses, according to Injuries Board CEO, Patricia Byron.

Over €500,000 in public liability claimants

The injuries Board has released figures showing that during 2009, 22 public liability claims were awarded in the county, bringing the total compensation given to these claimants to €565,312.
