Castlebar Mitchels won three county titles in the Mayo Scór na nÓg finals held in Breaffy Community Centre recently. Representatives of the Mitchels club won the figure dancing, the solo singing, and the instrumental music sections. The standard in all competitions was very high.
A barn dance will be held in The Yard of the Village Tavern, Bonniconlon, on Saturday October 29 at 9.30pm with music by Pat Boyle. There will be displays of line and sean nós dancing on the night with prizes for best dressed cowboy/cowgirl.
On Sunday, Killala will look to book their place in the All Ireland Junior Football championship final when they take on Liverpool side John Mitchels in Carrick on Shannon. This will be the second time in two years the north Mayo men have been within touching distance of Croke Park and the All Ireland final. In 2006 they fell short against Greencastle at this stage and they will be aiming to put things to right this weekend.
