Westport Folk and Bluegrass festival launched

The Westport Folk and Bluegrass Festival was launched in McGing's Bar, Westport, on Friday night last, May 17. The festival, now in its seventh year, will run over three days on the weekend of June 14 to 16. This year it will feature some 15 local, national, and international acts, including local band The Rocky Top String Band; Cork-based folk singer John Spillane; The Bluegrass Boogiemen from Holland; and 'The Queen of Banjo', Roni Stoneman from Nashville, who will be supported by fellow US act, Tumbling Bones.

Bank garden in Westport would be ‘legacy’

An application for CCTV for Westport has been forwarded to Garda Headquarters. According to Superintendent Aiden Foley the application has been sent and he hopes to be called to present to the Garda CCTV committee at the next quarterly meeting. However, the superintendent could not give the town’s JPC meeting a date when CCTV would be up and running.

Anti-social policy should allow for expulsion from local authority houses

Councillor Myles Staunton made a proposal at the Westport Joint Policing Committee meeting this week that a provision should be put in the Anti-Social policy document which will enable the “immediate expulsion from local authority housing” of anyone who lives in social housing and who allows someone who is involved in anti-social behaviour to stay with them.
