5,000 jobs in west’s offshore wind sector by 2037

A new report led by a collaboration of regional stakeholders identifies an unprecedented opportunity for the Atlantic Region in the Growth of Onshore to Offshore Wind. The study was commissioned by the Mid-West, North-West and West Regional Enterprise Offices and funded by the Enterprise Ireland Regional Enterprise Transition Scheme, Clare County Council, Donegal County Council, Leitrim County Council, Limerick County Council, Mayo County Council, Tipperary County Council and the Western Development Commission.

There is wind behind the drive for offshore energy

It is quite ironic that for a city so perched on the western edge of Europe that in economic terms we have spent such little time in actually looking out to sea. Perhaps back in the Middle Ages, when the city was accessed easier by the water, we looked out to sea for protective reasons, to ward off any dangers that might come in on the overnight tide.

€747,000 in funding for Mayo offshore islands

The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, announced almost €1.1 million to support a range of capital works on our offshore islands. Mayo is a major recipient of this islands funding and will benefit Clare Island, Inishturk and Inishbiggle with €747,000 awarded to three Mayo islands including refurbishment works at Old Roonagh Pier; €506,700 for Clare Island, €45,000 for Inishturk, and €55,800 for Inishbiggle Island.
