WHEN NICK Cave asked Conway Savage to join The Bad Seeds, he said he would have to “think about it”. However the two men had already played together, performing a couple of impromptu Elvis numbers at a friend’s wedding.

Conway Savage makes everything sound easy. His forthcoming tour of Ireland came about because he “met some nice people who liked my stuff”; he records at home and distributes on his own label because it’s cheap and he likes “that home sound”; and there is no conflict between his solo work and that of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, with whom he has played piano for the past 15 years - “My stuff’s my stuff and then I’m called in to work with the Bad Seeds.”

Dublin group The Bastard Rain come to Bar Ritz next Saturday night February 28 as part of the Finbar Hoban Presents series with support from Green Lights (last ever show) plus Vamos from Galway will be performing a DJ set in between the live entertainment.

Last Saturday night Green Lights and The Bastard Rain plus support from Kudoose bought an evening of excellent live entertainment To Bar Ritz (Mulroys Bar) Castlebar. At 9.30pm local group Kudose took to the stage playing acoustic versions of Jose Gonzalez’s take on The Knifes’ version ‘Heartbeats’ right through to The Stone Roses’ ‘Waterfall’.

There is plenty of Arts festival events taking place over the weekend for visitors and locals alike. There are many art exhibitions and lots of music and literary events still available.

THE JOURNALIST, author, and poet Olaf Tyaransen will read from his work, at an Over The Edge event, at Sheridan’s Wine Bar, Church Yard Street, on Friday May 8 at 8pm.

CONWAY SAVAGE, the long serving pianist and backing vocalist for Nick Cave’s band The Bad Seeds, will play a solo show upstairs in the Róisín Dubh on Friday August 7 at 8pm.
