Mayo tourism grants unveiled

The Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism, Martin Cullen TD, has announced that funding of up to €4,329,125 has been allocated under Fáilte Ireland's Tourism Infrastructure Fund to 27 tourism projects around the country. This allocation of funding is in addition to over €18 million in Tourism Infrastructure Fund grants already announced. The details of funding for Mayo projects have been outlined and include cycle routes, walking routes and facility improvements at Croagh Patrick and the National Famine Monument.

Louisburgh, Newport and Claremorris may face broadcast blackout

With the recent announcement by Mayo Community TV Ltd that the plug will be pulled on its transmitter in Drummin on September 30, chairperson Joe Gibbons warned that the areas of Claremorris, Newport and Louisburgh may also have their transmitters shut down, which would affect all householders in the area who rely on these transmitters to receive their television stations.

BreastCheck continues to screen women in County Mayo from a fully accessible mobile unit located at Mayo County General Hospital in Castlebar. Screening of eligible women in the 50 to 64 age bracket in Achill, Clare Island, Newport, Westport and Louisburgh is currently under way. Women who are registered are sent appointments with BreastCheck by post.

NRA accused of negligence over N59 funding
