Galway received a jobs boost yesterday with the announcement by Supermac's founders Pat and Una McDonagh that 100 jobs are to be created at the country's latest motorway service station on the M6 at Kiltullagh. The couple will also employ a further 220 people in the future due to plans for three further plaza developments nationwide over the next two years.

Now that the exact route of the proposed Galway bypass has been identified, affected property owners at various locations across the city are still coming to terms with the fact their homes will have to be knocked to facilitate the road. Other property owners who will not be subject to demolition face the reality of living in extremely close proximity to a busy national artery.

Reaction continues this evening following the revelation of the chosen route for the proposed new Galway city bypass. 41 homes are in line for demolition and 10 more are 'severely affected' by the preferred corridor. At a media briefing earlier today further detail about the new road was revealed.

The speculation about which route the new Galway city bypass will take comes to an end today. A briefing is due to take place this morning (Thursday) which will detail the exact route chosen. The saga has been ongoing since January, when six potential routes for the new road were announced.

Residents in Barna have set up an action group due to their concerns over the proposed new Galway city bypass. The group will hold a public meeting in Barna Golf Club next Wednesday evening at 8pm.
