The fifth and final exciting heat of Show Me The Funny will take place next Monday February 20 in The King's Head, and will see two new comedians battle it out for the top spot. "It's been tough but enjoyable for both the judges and sell out audiences these last few Monday nights, but we are now about to find out the full line up for the final," says Host and MC, Gerry Mallon. The winner of the final will earn a spot performing in the Electric Picnic comedy tent.

Monday morning, August 16, 1971 (50 years ago next Monday), started off in a normal way in Galway but that quickly changed very dramatically. A fire was discovered shortly before 11.30am in McDonough’s Yard on Merchants Road. It was spotted by a lady standing across the street at the Tourist Office and she alerted the fire brigade. At the time, there were only about four full-time firefighters in the station but they responded very quickly.

On Easter Monday, a large contingent of walkers and history enthusiasts departed from Newport to follow in the footsteps of Michael Kilroy's flying column, who during the War of Indepdence escaped through the mountains and countryside of Newport following an ambush in Kilmeena.
