A new model for the allocation of special education teaching resources to both primary and secondary schools will be introduced from September, local Independent Minister Denis Naughten has confirmed.

Longford-Westmeath Independent Deputy, Kevin ‘Boxer’ Moran, has secured more than €6.8m for County Westmeath’s regional and local roads under the 2017 funding allocation announced this week by Transport Minister, Shane Ross.

Taoiseach Kenny said “I welcome confirmation by my colleague, the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Shane Ross T.D. that over €20 million will be invested in Regional and Local Roads in Mayo in 2017. This funding is part of a nationwide €324 million investment programme to maintain and strengthen our regional road network.”

Fine Gael Mayo senator, and Seanad spokesperson on agriculture, food and the marine, Michelle Mulherin, has asked that Swinford be included in Action Plan for Rural Development. This week, Senator Mulherin said: “I have asked Minister Humphreys to include Swinford as a pilot project town for the action plan. I think the town would be an ideal case to implement a pilot project and develop a worthwhile scheme for all rural market towns.
