Motion on Leader funding passed after lengthy debate

A notice of motion by Michelle Mulherin calling on the Ballina electoral area committee to request the Minister for Environment and the Minister for Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs to obtain a derogation for Ballina and other towns in the BMW region from the EU in order for them to obtain structural funds under the Leader programme caused plenty of debate at the committee meeting this week. The motion was eventually passed when it was seconded by her Fine Gael party colleague Jarlath Munnelly.

Ballina councillors congratulate Calleary

The members of Ballina Town Council took time out before their monthly meeting to congratulate Dara Calleary on his promotion to Minister of State within the Department of Enterprise, Trade, and Employment. Starting off the congratulations was Town Mayor, Michelle Mulherin. She told the meeting: “I would like to congratulate Dara on his promotion to the position of Junior Minister. It is a great achievement for him and his family and he has been handed a very apt portfolio.”

Council adopted revised roadworks scheme with reservations

The members of Mayo County Council adopted the road works scheme for 2009 for the second time this year, when they approved the newly revised scheme for the year after over €8 million was cut from the Government funding for projects following the supplementary budget this year.
