The Mayo International Choral Festival have announced that the President of Ireland, Michael D Higgins and Mrs Sabina Higgins will attend as guests of honour at the Concert For Peace in Knock Basilica on Saturday May 14 which will commemorate the 1916 Rising and World War I. The unprecedented scale of such a concert in this venue will see close to 200 artists perform on the night, all presented by lauded broadcaster, RTÉ Lyric FM’s Liz Nolan. Conductor extraordinaire David Brophy of RTÉ’s award winning High Hopes Choir and instrumental fame brings his impressive experience to proceedings, conducting this special event.

Danny O’Brien and Mayo’s own Ger Staunton bring a night of hilarious stand-up comedy to the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday May 19 at 8pm. 

Stephen Rochford made his first big statement as Mayo manager wielding the axe and cutting nine players from his panel. Michael Conroy being the most high profile of these. A company founded by a Tuam woman has secured funding through Dragons Den to allow them to bring safe manageable solutions for parent with children who suffer from allergies, and anaphylaxis and asthma.

School choirs from all over Ireland will perform in the SCCUL Schools Choral Competition on Friday May 6. The competition which is hosted by GMIT will see choirs from Dublin, Donegal, Sligo, Mayo and Galway compete at Primary and Post- Primary level.
