Major international legal symposium for Westport

The Western Development Commission (WDC) is the key instigator in bringing the inaugural US/Ireland Legal Symposium to Westport next month. Supported by Mayo County Council the initiative dovetails with Government plans for trade, tourism and investment. Up to 300 Irish and American business people and legal sector representatives are expected at Knockranny House Hotel from May 11 to 13. The event boasts an outstanding line up of speakers led by Taoiseach Enda Kenny who is guest speaker at the gala dinner. The event will be chaired by Deirdre Somers, chief executive of the Irish Stock Exchange (ISE) and speakers include Mr Justice Peter Kelly of the Commercial Court and Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor of the Ohio Supreme Court.

Scoil Naomh Pholl a tSomais, Ballina has won the Mayo county prize for School Game Playing Day 2010 by showing that its pupils had the most fun in the county playing board games. The school is a previous winner and received €200 towards its School Game Playing Day Fund.

The Mayo senior footballers will welcome Kerry to McHale Park for their second game in the 2011 National Football League on Sunday. The visit of Jack O’Connor’s side will pose another difficult examination of James Horan’s early tenure in charge of the green and red. Last weekend Horan picked up his first piece of silverware in the Mayo bainisteoir’s bib when they saw off the challenge of John Maughan’s NUIG by 1-14 to 0-11.
