Thousands headed to Westport yesterday for the Westport Airshow

Future of GMIT campus comes back into the limelight again

The future of GMIT's Castlebar campus has taken another twist this week as concerns for the future of the campus intensified. Fine Gael senator Michelle Mulherin said that she had been informed that a number of staff and students at the Castlebar campus had been asked to move to the Galway campus, saying: “I am very concerned that between 12 and 15 staff, at GMIT Castlebar have been asked via their union to transfer voluntarily to Galway within three to four weeks. Should they refuse, they will be added to the redeployment panel, and may be asked to transfer to any location within the higher education sector.

Information meeting on Kiltimagh Amenity Park

Kiltimagh Amenity Park Committee is holding a public information evening on Wednesday at 8pm in the Kiltimagh Community Centre. A committee spokesperson said, "We have been working alongside Mayo County Council and our Castlebar Municipal District councillors to attain an amenity park for the community of Kiltimagh. This has been achieved with the full support and co-operation of Mayo County Council and our local councillors and we would therefore ask for your support on this project.

Ring opens Crossmolina’s new Multi Use Games Area

Michael Ring, Minister of State for Regional Economic Development, officially opened the Crossmolina Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) on Friday last. In October 2016, Minister Ring launched the CLÁR programme which provided funding for small scale infrastructural projects in disadvantaged rural areas that have experienced significant levels of de-population. The funding was provided under three measures, Safety Measures for Schools and Community/Sports Facilities, Playgrounds and Multi-Use Games Areas (MUGA), and Local Access Roads.

'Shelter’ project has lots of life at the National Museum of Ireland

An environmentally minded art project that is full of life is getting under way this May at the National Museum of Ireland, Turlough Park, Castlebar. A group of artists from across Mayo are to spend six weeks creating a ‘living shelter’ in the historic grounds of Turlough Park House.

The 2017 Mayo Fleadh Cheoil hosted by the Cleary/Coyne branch was launched by Cllr Al McDonnell, Chairman of Mayo County Council, in the Valkenburg Hotel Ballinrobe recently. It was attended by a number of local councillors, representatives of various organizations in Ballinrobe, branch executives, and members of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann.
