Mayo county councillors racked up more than €800K in six months

Figures released by Mayo County Council under the Freedom of Information Act have revealed that Mayo county councillors were paid out €836,212 from January to the end of June 2009, all relating to the six months pre-election. Independent Castlebar Councillor Frank Durcan who sought this information said that these figures are “immoral in the times that are in it”.

€160,000 sanctioned in north Mayo for rural recreational projects

Fine Gael leader Dep Enda Kenny has welcomed funding sanctioned by the Department of Community, Rural, and Gaeltacht Affairs to Mayo County Council for providing and upgrading rural recreational projects in north Mayo. Road safety roadshow returns to Mayo

The road safe roadshow project will make sure over 1,000 of Mayo's teenagers are aware of traffic dangers before they get behind the wheel themselves. Manager rejects Durcan’s claim his wife benefited from junction change

Independent Councillor Frank Durcan has called for the acting county manager Joe Beirne to consider his position after he accused him of benefiting from the change of a junction on the Pontoon/Turlough Road in Castlebar. Cllr Durcan alleged to a meeting of Mayo County Council that Mr Beirne had not fulfilled his duties in disclosing his interests in a property in the area where the works were being carried out. The property Cllr Durcan referred to is the premises where Mr Beirne’s wife carries out her business.
